Daily Weigh-Ins and Your Weight-Loss Goals

Contrary to popular belief, daily weigh-ins can be tremendous aids in reaching weight-loss goals. In one study, researchers enrolled more than 3,000 overweight people who were on weight-loss or weight-maintenance programs and followed them for two years.

About 20 percent of the study subjects reported that they never weighed themselves, while 40 percent had weigh-ins daily or weekly. At the study’s conclusion, daily weighers lost an average of 12 pounds while weekly weighers lost 6 pounds. And for the people who never weighed themselves? They actually gained four pounds.

Although many weight-loss programs do not recommend weigh-ins every day, this study suggests that the feedback received from stepping on the scales every morning helps keep dieters on track. So if you don’t have a scale, get one, and don’t be afraid to use it every day.
