Healing Tip: Daily Weigh-ins for Weight Loss
Contrary to popular belief, daily weigh-ins can be tremendous aids in reaching weight loss goals. In one study, researchers enrolled more than 3,000 overweight people who were on weight loss or weight maintenance programs and followed them for two years.
About 20 percent of the study subjects reported that they never weighed themselves, while 40 percent did so daily or weekly. At the study’s conclusion, daily weighers lost an average of 12 pounds while weekly weighers lost 6 pounds. And for the people who never weighed themselves? They actually gained four pounds.
Although many weight loss programs do not recommend weighing every day, this study suggests that the feedback received from stepping on the scales every morning helps keep dieters on track. So if you don’t have a scale, get one, and don’t be afraid to use it every day.
