Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of disorders that includes obesity (particularly abdominal obesity), high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels, low HDL cholesterol (often referred to as “good” cholesterol, since it ushers excess cholesterol out of the body), and increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Do You Have Pre-Diabetes?

People with pre-diabetes have either impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), or both. To determine if IFG is present, you must fast overnight and then have your blood sugar levels tested in a physician’s office.
