Probiotics

The Problem
For years, I’ve prescribed “probiotic” supplements — which is a fancy term for healthy, live, essential bacteria. These are bacteria you need for healthy digestion and absorption of nutrients. They help you break down hard-to-digest foods, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. And they promote healthy bowel movements.

These critical bacteria are also the “immune-boosters” of your digestive system. That’s because they line the walls of your intestines with healthy flora, crowding out the other bacteria. And healthy bacteria produce lactic acid creating a protective barrier to keep your digestive system running smooth.

But as you age, your levels of healthy bacteria start to dwindle. You will likely lose the bifidobacteria strains — which are the ones that live in your large intestine and help you form healthy bowel movements. That’s just one of the reasons I believe it’s so essential to take probiotics — especially at this point in your life.

Plus, as we age, levels of certain bacteria decrease, which can lead to milk sensitivities. So supplementation with probiotics can be very important.

Breakthrough technology
Probiotics contain “live” healthy bacteria — which will die if exposed to light or air. Unfortunately, many probiotic products fail to deliver this good bacteria because of special refrigeration and handling needs. In fact, a recent product review of probiotic supplements by Consumerlab.com revealed that 1/3 of the products tested contained less than 1% of the expected number of viable bacteria.

But there’s a significant new breakthrough from Japan that is changing all this. Using an advanced encapsulation process, the active bacteria are first covered with a layer of natural vegetable oil. Then, they are coated with an acid-resistant shell made from gelatin and pectin to shield it from air and moisture.

This triple layering protects the probiotics so they don’t require special handling or refrigeration. And it also protects the bacteria from stomach acid, so they can reach your intestines alive, where they can go to work.

I’m very excited that I’ve been able to use this Japanese breakthrough to create a probiotic supplement. To build this new probiotic, I selected very specific strains of bacteria that are particularly beneficial to us as we age. Because these triple layer capsules actually look like tiny pearls, I’ve called them PearlBiotics.
