Put Your Own Stem Cells to Work for You

Stem cells used to be ensnared in controversy. That’s because embryonic stem cells (from human embryos) were some of the first to be studied. But today’s cutting-edge research focuses on non-embryonic adult mesenchymal stem cells. These adult stem cells are derived from your own body, and who can argue with using your own stem cells in a safe and therapeutic manner?

A Unique Source

Though adult stem cells can be derived from bone marrow, this isn’t the most effective means. The cells in the marrow aren’t overly abundant and must be cultured over a period of several days in order to produce an amount appropriate for therapeutic use. Fortunately, fat—which is in abundant supply in many of us—is a far richer, much more accessible source of healthy adult stem cells.

A “mini” liposuction procedure removes a few ounces of a patient’s fat and then separates the stem cells using a unique process that yields an extremely high number of viable cells. These healing cells are then returned back to the patient via an injection or intravenously.

The procedure is performed in a physician’s office—under sedation and local anesthesia—which makes discomfort minimal. And because the process is done using sterile “closed system” technology, there is very little risk of infection. Better still, since the cells are derived from the person’s own body, there is no chance of disease transmission or rejection

Bountiful Benefits

So how can you put your own stems cells to work for you? The possibilities are limitless. What makes stem cells so incredible is that they can differentiate into many different cell types.

Whereas a kidney cell can only replicate to make more kidney tissue, stem cells can travel throughout the body to wherever they are needed. These specialized cells’ main job is to maintain and repair damaged or degenerated tissues. Signaled by inflammation, they travel to the area of injury or damage and get to work facilitating healing

You used to have to leave the country to get stem cell therapy. Thankfully, this is no longer the case. The Whitaker Wellness Institute is proud to have recently partnered with the Newport Beach Stem Cell Treatment Center to offer non-embryonic adult mesenchymal stem cell therapy to our patients.
