Can I Take Too Many Vitamins?
As the old saying goes, too much of anything can be harmful. But there’s no reason you shouldn’t take multiple nutritional supplements as long as you’re using common sense and not taking, say, three products that all contain more or less the same thing.
In all likelihood, you probably need multiple supplements.
Once you get beyond a daily multi and basic accessory nutrients, your needs will vary according to your specific health concerns. The nutrients that help maintain regular blood sugar, for example, are not the same ones that support the liver or the eyes.
The only thing you have to be concerned about when you begin taking multiple nutritional supplements is getting too much of a single nutrient—especially minerals and fat-soluble vitamins. So read ingredient labels carefully and know the upper limits for supplement safety.
